HKU VERS 2018 | Her Sanitary

In september EXboot will open her doors as an exhibition area. Just like ‘big brother’ EXbunker, EXboot will kick off the cultural season with ‘HKU Vers’: the most remarkable graduation project of a student from the Art academy in Utrecht (HKU). EXboot selected the work of Emma van Doorn.

Steel and plush. A lot of pink and a bit of black. Abandoned and playful. Pop Art and De Stijl. Contradictions are the idiom of Emma van Doorn; She combines high ánd low culture with a mindful attitude and a postmodern swing. She questions the truth that is so often claimed with no doubt. Hence she dismantles the world and brings it back to seperate elements with a slightly abstract character: a bubble bath with balls, a tribal hug, a sanitary attribute molded in epoxy. And sometimes she pops up herself. With a humorous undertone she asks her sincere question: Is the art world too elitist and has it become isolated from real life? The world of ‘the white cube’ opposite ‘the stranger in the night’? In EXboot Emma van Doorn knows how to bring these worlds together again with enticing visual means. Pst! … do you dare?
