Kato Kagenaar is a visual artist and illustrator. Through a feminist lens, she approaches subjects she criticizes in a humorous way. She uses performance, drawings, ceramics and video. Her interests lie in (internet) pop culture, sexuality and social roles and patterns.

Everyone experiences sexual misconduct to a greater or lesser extent. Maybe it happens to you, you do it yourself, or you see it as a spectator. Rape culture is entrenched in society, and so is the way we talk about it. ‘What do you say’ is a series of statuettes in which are engraved things that people often say in response to transgressive behaviour. In these statues, Kato Kagenaar allows fleeting comments to petrify, just as they can petrify in your life. By doing this she wants to make you think about your own role in such situations and broaden your view. Have you ever said this yourself? Or is this said about you? What do you do when someone says this about someone else?
In “No drama” this work comes together with film and paintings in an exhibition about toxic masculinity, transgressive behavior and patriarchy.
