Things that encounter in daily life, shape the outline of Klaartjes work as a multidisciplinair artist, where the natural and the mechanical meet is of importance throughout her work. The mechanics of a bike chain, a piece of tree bark or an old Époisses cheese that looks like a brain fallen out of its body, it could motivate a new work. In the studio she moves between different media such as photography, drawing, sculpture and installation. One work can be the cause of another work, they follow each other up in an associative and intuitive manner. Her work is an attempt to visualize an invisible feelings of horror and desire, feelings she finds in these banalities as well as in her own dreams. It is a way to make certain emotions into a physical object, to be able to examine and communicate it. Many plaster pieces are a result of digging holes into soil and pouring the plaster in, this technique has become of great importance throughout her practice, relating to the content of her work. Digging into the dark, maybe the unknown, past or future, and by pouring plaster, making this act visible, tangible and existing to shine light upon.
