Downward Dog

Katharina Busl

5 December 2024 - 5 January 2025

“Downward Dog” is a new site-specific multimedia installation by Katharina Busl at ExBoot.
Soft colors, foam, ergonomic shapes, and a bubble bath contrast with ritualistic objects, rough
textures, and cold steel — melding into a bizarre Wohlfühloase.

Katharina Busl was born in Munich, Germany, and currently lives and works in Utrecht. She
recently graduated from the Utrecht School of Arts (HKU).

In her artistic practice, Katharina Busl explores the space where virtual and material reality
intertwine. Living in the information age, where digitality has become a crucial extension of
ourselves as social and cultural beings, Busl continually seeks to explore these transformative
forces within her praxis and questions the influence they have on us and our perception of
reality.

Born into the last generation with somewhat clearer defined boundaries between the digital
and the physical world, she witnessed the advent of the smartphone and the internet becoming
ubiquitous. New technology steadily creeping into her life felt like magic. She slowly became
enchanted by its wonders and now floats with ease in the infosphere.

Through her use of various media like painting, sculpture, and digital media, held in uncanny
shapes, textures, and synthetic colors, combined in installations, Busl generates otherworldly,
hybrid experiences. By confronting the public with unusual and immersive environments, she
wants to transport them to a realm of transcendence where constant transformations
occur, inviting everyone to speculate and redefine reality.

The Nijverheid (and therefore EXboot) will be closed from the 22nd of december to the 2nd of january.
