Ecdysis

Janneke Berendsen

20 November 2020 - 18 December 2020

In the same place where female nudity was once the center of attention, Janneke Berendsen is determined to give the visitor a different perspective at femininity. A vision that is not, as we are used to through the media, partially sexual and one-dimensional, but a vision in which the woman can be seen as a complex and layered being. The old “skin” of EXboot is put aside, new forms become visible through the multimedia installation “Ecdysis”: a title that refers to the process that certain animal species go through in order to grow and where they shed their entire skin.

Janneke Berendsen (‘s-Hertogenbosch, 1983) is a visual artist and photography teacher. In her work, she combines various media, among other things by drawing on photo prints, modeling photo prints into 3D objects and making video projections on drawings. A recurring motif is the female nude in the form of self-portraits. Social norms regarding women are being centralized.
