Inspired by the way she observes the world around her, from fascinating to shocking, Rosa Huibers’ film projections come alive within the space they occupy. Through her work she lets people explore different world views. She finds it interesting how people interpret the abstract messages of her work in different ways.
The subject of Huibers’ graduation project was about the intertwined virtual and physical world: “Due to the constantly present media we’re always aware of what happens elsewhere in the world. At the same time, we don’t know that much by our own experience. Media defines how we see reality. However, can we really even speak of reality in this context? My work shows that reality is creatable through different ways of presentation, like adding or substracting images or light from a scene.” Her work in EXboot will consist of a film installation that will come alive within the space. An abstract visualization of themes inspired by the history of the EXboot, e.g. vulnerability, prejudices and losing control of yourself.
For Huibers, the camera functions as her third eye. Through her camera, she captures the world in the way she wants to show it. “I’m inspired by the fact that I have control over the image I bring into the public eye. Fiction and reality are confused with each other by handmade and everyday images I film, manipulate and interweave together as an entire thing. Most of the time, sounds are influenced.”
Rosa Huibers combines cinematic images with objects that have a poetic edge. The images are most of all sensitive to atmosphere and socially committed. With her work she aims at giving people an experience. Sometimes recognition, sometimes marvel or astonishment and sometimes confusion. It’s hard to recognize reality. She wants to make people think, go beyond mere esthetics and give meaning and context.
