To Sophie Spekle EXboot feels like an abandoned, nearly dystopian place that withholds many precious memories. She tries to capture the place in her work and plays with lightness and heaviness, fluidity and decay. Structures and skeletons melt away in cloudy spaces and landscapes. This altogether is to be seen in figures, objects and collages that form a blueprint for what has yet to ‘become’.

The works have a visual language consisting of grids, overviews, maps and notes, in which “earthy” structures and formless masses are indicated. All this stems from Spekle’s interest in that which cannot be determined: things that deform, decay, transition, and have a mind of their own. But also the way humans create structures and forms to be able to understand.

Spekle’s work consists of combining a variety of media and materials in search of the transformation and different states of ‘things’. This often results in a combination of physical, earthly forms in combination with technology.
