A Martian Day

Ever since his childhood, Johny Ceelen has had a special interest in the world of fantasy, space opera, foreign planets, robots and space ships. Or medieval stories in which – for some reason – magic potions and mythical creatures were involved. Throughout time this fantasy world turned more complex and started to involve more cultural and historical background. ‘Reality’ entered this imagined world, or the other way around. Gradually the assemblage of fantasy and reality became Ceelen’s primary focus in his paintings.

This sense of bringing alive the fantasy world, is what Ceelen will exhibit in my small room: martial landscapes how Ceelen imagines them, endless desserts with high mountains and a potential beginning for a story, in which the landscapes itself are at the centre of the stage.
